Anxiety UK now has a live chat instant messaging service where you can speak to one of our trained volunteers, many of whom have personal experience of anxiety and depression. They can help you navigate around the site, and will be able to answer any specific questions you may have.
Please note that this is not a counselling service, and as such chat times will be for a limited timescale.
Live chat is only open between the hours of 9.30am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday and is subject to volunteer availability.

Anxiety UK supports the principles of free speech. However we also recognize the importance for people to respect the rights of others. Our goal is to create a supportive and empathic environment for a individuals with anxiety which also means a place where we don’t tolerate behavior that is harmful to others. Our rules are designed to support the creation of an inviting environment to meet new people, share coping strategies and participate in vibrant discussions. So, please read this agreement.
Here is a list of rules which if violated, may result in a Member or User being removed from a chat room or permanently banned from using Anxiety UK.
Please be advised that we report certain types of activities to the authorities and cooperate with law enforcement conducting criminal investigations. These include if a person discloses they are actively suicidal, where any child or vulnerable adult is at risk from abuse or neglect and any disclosures related to terrorism.
- Absolutely no sexually explicit or offensive language
Please keep in mind that there are minors on this website. Anyone violating this rule will be banned from the site immediately.
- No harassing other users
Harassing other users in any way or form including harassment of users based on race, religion or sexuality is strictly prohibited. We try to keep an amicable and congenial environment here. Please treat other members with respect.
- No flooding or spamming
Interrupting the flow of the chat sessions with the use of large fonts, repetitive typing, chat clearing, the advertising of other websites or any other activity that makes it difficult for chatters to maintain a conversation is strictly prohibited.
- No posting of private contact information
We ask that you do not give out personal information, e-mail address, phone numbers and home addresses. If you do so, you do this at your own risk and release Anxiety UK from any and all responsibility.
- No impersonating other members
Changing your chat name or creating an account to impersonate other members is considered a form of harassment and is prohibited.
- Please be aware that this chat is time limited, and is mainly for receiving brief support to do with using the site.

Live chat transcripts Monitoring & record keeping
All live chat transcripts will be archived in a secure server for a year, after this time they automatically delete. No records will be kept of individual correspondence other than the transcripts themselves in accordance to the time scale referred to above. The service will be routinely monitored to ensure that standards are maintained and that a quality service is consistently provided. There is an option to request a chat transcript to be emailed to you at the end of the session; no records are kept of the email address you provide.
