What are the benefits of online therapy?

More and more users of our services are choosing to access therapy through webcam, and we’ve seen some extremely positive results. Last year, of those preferring to speak with a therapist over skype, 73.4% recovered once their therapy sessions finished. 86.7% of cases reported a reliable improvement in their
mental health.

Research shows that only 65% of people living with mental health disorders currently receive treatment for them. Our aim at Anxiety UK is to continually improve the accessibility of therapy for all those that need it, no matter of their personal circumstances or location.
We realise everyone’s experiences of anxiety, stress and anxiety based depression can be different and that the support needed can vary from one person to the next. We also passionately believe in choice and are committed to offering a range of therapy services.

DOTS offers greater comfort for people who feel anxious in social situations. Having a distance between therapist and client can help people who feel apprehensive about real-world social situations open up and disclose fully. This can help to accelerate the therapeutic process.

In fact, there are many benefits to accessing digital therapy:

Accessibility: Mobility can be a big issue when it comes to accessing mental health care. Individuals who are unable to leave their home for various reasons, such as physical or mental illness, may find online therapy a useful alternative to traditional settings. For those whose anxiety is a barrier in social situations, you can connect to a therapist from the privacy of your own home without the need to speak to receptionists or anyone else at the clinic.

Convenience: Online therapy works around your schedule, so you don’t have to sacrifice it for other responsibilities like your job or childcare. You can arrange sessions from the comfort of your own home at times that are easiest for you. Not having to travel to a session also saves you time and money.

Choice: In 2017, Generalised Anxiety Disorder and Mixed Depression/Anxiety were the most popular reasons our members cited for seeking support, our therapists dealt with a variety of anxiety conditions including agoraphobia, panic disorder, workplace stress and postnatal anxiety. With many therapists to choose from, each with their own areas of specialisation, you can be seen by a therapist at
short notice when you need them the most.

Ongoing Support: After your session, your notes and further reading recommendations can be accessed through your account any time you wish to read over them. You can book more than one an appointment with the same therapist, either through the DOTS service or you can choose to receive ongoing
support with them through our reduced-cost therapy service if you become a member of Anxiety UK.

Who are your therapists and are they qualified?

All our therapists are licensed, experienced, and accredited to provide a service with us and have been DBS background checked. We have a strict approval process for therapists and a training programme for the therapists to undergo before offering sessions through the DOTS.

Does my information remain private?

Yes, all your personal data and session records are stored securely within the DOTS platform and is accessible only by your therapist and yourself.
