Read our volunteers experiences of volunteering for ANXIETY UK and their reasons and motivation for doing so.
Nasur Iqbal
Volunteer CBT practitioner - Manchester
I volunteer my time with ANXIETY UK because I wish to gain experience of working with the particular client group that ANXIETY UK has. I find the most satisfying aspect of my work with ANXIETY UK is the fact that the volunteering opportunities offered are very flexible, and there is a lot of support provided to volunteers. Of course, I also highly value the experience that I am gaining too.
Jeff Murray
Volunteer co-facilitator of Manchester drop-in social phobia support group
I volunteer my time with ANXIETY UK as a self-help facilitator as I want to help myself and others to overcome the challenges of social phobia. The most satisfying part of this work is really seeing the improvement in the quality of life of myself and others as a result of attending the group. In fact, a very large support network has evolved comprising fellow sufferers of social phobia throughout a region as a direct result of the group's existence and has enabled sufferers to meet up socially in addition to attending the weekly support group.
Jo Caulfield
Volunteer complementary therapist
I volunteer my time with ANXIETY UK because I have suffered from depression and panic attacks myself in the past and I know how debilitating these conditions can be. The most satisfying thing for me about volunteering with ANXIETY UK is helping people to help themselves.
Lee Phillips
Volunteer helpline worker
I volunteer my time with ANXIETY UK because I have suffered myself from anxiety and depression and I and wanted to put something back into the organisation. It is particularly therapeutic volunteering in an environment where people are sympathetic towards mental health problems and it is nice to be part of a caring network.
Heather Taylor
Volunteer clinical hypnotherapist
I feel ANXIETY UK organisation is well run, with good information provided to therapists and it is most rewarding to know that in volunteering my time, I have assisted someone who without ANXIETY UK would not have sought therapy.
Michelle Brunt
Volunteer counsellor
I heard about ANXIETY UK during my training as counsellor and was impressed by the range of resources and support on offer along with the high profile of self-help groups within the organisation. My energy and enthusiasm for volunteering comes from my experiences with clients who show such courage and determination. To witness the gradual dawning of endless possibilities and unlimited futures is tremendously inspiring.
Maha Temsamani
Volunteer helpline worker
Hi, my name is Maha, and I have been an ANXIETY UK volunteer since February this year. I became interested in anxiety disorders in my third year at university.
I have studied psychology for the last five years, and plan to establish a career in the field, as I love working with people. I have learnt so much already in my short time with ANXIETY UK, from colleagues and especially from callers and hope to continue learning. At university, I really enjoyed studying child psychology, as well as abnormal and clinical psychology. I would love to become a clinical psychologist, and hope that this is this is the beginning of the journey there. ANXIETY UK office is a wonderful, friendly environment and the staff have been fantastic in informing me about events and providing opportunities to help me reach my goals, and I have recently started doing some CCBT support work, thanks to ANXIETY UK.
