Additional information

If there is not an Anxiety UK therapist available in your area, or you find it difficult to attend appointments due to your anxiety condition, we can provide telephone or webcam based therapy for you. Many people find these types of therapy are easy to fit in around the demands of modern life  or allow those who might not ordinarily have been able to access services to get the help they need.

Refunds policy

Anxiety UK does not offer refunds for first and last therapy sessions as usually we are able to pass clients on to qualified telephone or webcam therapists in the unlikely event that we are unable to provide a therapist in a specific location. A refund will be issued at Anxiety UK’s discretion, minus a 15% admin fee.

One example of a circumstance where we would be prepared to offer a refund includes:

  • If you have requested clinical hypnotherapy and the therapist is no longer available in your area. Clinical hypnotherapy is not available over the telephone or webcam.

We will not usually offer a refund if:

  • You change your mind about wanting therapy, either because you have now obtained access to an NHS therapist, or for any other reason.

Please note that should your circumstances change, Anxiety UK will not be unable to provide a refund for the difference in session fees. However, you will be entitled to lower or higher ongoing session fees where appropriate.

Please note – therapists are not able to reply to comments via the Anxiety UK website.

    • Jude says:

I’m 57 and suffer from anxiety and depression. Anxiety and distressing, repetitive thoughts that I can’t shift. I compare myself unfavourably to others all the time and feel inadequate, inferior and worthless most of the time. I feel everyone else is happy and I feel unable to get a hold on life and terrible guilt for being unable to really appreciate what I have – and there is no reason really why I should feel this way. I have been trying to help myself for years and don’t want to burden others. I’m in psychotherapy but after 6 months I am feeling much worse, and I’m frightened I won’t improve. Are there any self help groups in the South London area, pref. Bromley or Croydon?

  11. RACHEL E says:

    Hi

I came across your details on the Internet.

I have intermittent periods of low mood/depression, that is often tainted with I feel is anxiety. I don’t know if depression/anxiety are related. I feel that I understand so little about this and need to know more. I am on medication from my GP and whilst she is very supportive, I know she does not always have the time for me to pour my concerns out.

Having scoured the internet for various symptoms I have and there are many, pains, sickness etc it only lends itself to worry me more than I was to start with. I have just taken a week of work but, feel so anxious about going back and the thoughts of what people will think, that I feel ill all over.

My employee’s are supportive but, can only help me so much.

I live on the Isle of Man and cannot find any support groups locally. I just feel I need to communicate with someone/somebody who truly understands how I feel.

    Can you help?

    Many thanks

    Rachel Evans

  12. Amie says:

Hiya, wasn’t entirely sure where to post a comment.
I have had anxiety for a couple of years, and recently had problems with hypochondria.
Recently I’ve been having horrible disturbing thoughts and terrible anxiety.
I’m really very scared of going mental or losing control and hurting/killing my boyfriend and other loved ones.
I’ve gone through depersonalisation, anxiety attacks, fear of being left alone and just utter despair because of thise.
I’ve been recently trying to understand anxiety and how it works and how I can deal with it. At the moment, I’ve learnt that accepting the thoughts and paying them little attention while they come can help. But I’m still traumatised by the whole thing.
I’m better than I was, and Im having more good moments than bad now due to distraction, a loving boyfriend and knowledge. But I would like to hear from people with the same problem, people who have recovered or anyone who can help.
I’m really interested in self help groups for anxiety and depression sufferers as I have both, I am local to Reading which means any surrounding areas I can access. I only found an OCD group which I contacted. Was just wondering if theres anyone out there who can recommend treatment, therapy, groups etc
    Thank You.

If you are still looking for support groups at your loca area, I would recommend you to visit your local libraries, community centers, city council and churches and see if they advertise any. Hope this helps.

    Hi My name is Vitali,

Been suffering with Panic attacks from 2004 up until now, managed to get better but starting from Jan 2011 everything went down the drain and I’m back to square one. Today I have met some people at Chorlton Anxiety group, they told me of this website and also mentioned you might help me get counseling services or CBT, I’m getting desperate but is unable to afford private treatment as I have a pregnant wife to support.

    Live in Manchester, Chorlton.

    • Anxiety U says:

I’m sorry to hear about your anxiety, but you are not alone, help is available. We offer counselling, CBT and other types of therapy, with a fees based on client income, so we will most probably be able to offer you afforable and accessable therapy, as we do have therapists available in the Manchester area.

You would need to join as a member to access therapy, this is £30 for the year, which also gets you access to our specialist helpline, our quarterly magazine, our penpals list and also access to our online chatroom.

If you would like to access therapy please give us a call on 08444 775 774.

      Regards

Is there any way to be able to discuss an anxiety disorder by email with someone?

  19. Shaun says:

keep being told to try this site so here I am,
got ill in,,, 2004 being sick whenever I did anything slightly physical (P.E at the time) so went to the doctors and he made me more ill, by not telling me my hayfever tablets can’t be taken with what he gave me,,, that happened a few times,, late 2005 early 06. getting out of town was becoming a challenge, then getting to the town centre, then to college (a five minute walk from my house) so I just stopped trying,
fell into depression with that for a year and a half of being non-responsive,,, been trying to get help but social workers don’t do much to help and my doctor refuses to come and see me
I seem to keep gaining problems, so it’s not helping me try to get myself out of this and when I did get a ‘head doctor’ here he just gave me loads of medicine, that I wouldn’t take because of past experiences,,
(don’t think I’ve ever said so much in a message)

      Hi Shaun

This must be distressing. Have you considered accessing therapy through us? We are able to offer members therapy service with a reduced cost, and the therapies include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Counselling, Clinical Hypnotherapy and Neuro-linguistic programming. They are very effective talking therapies in treating anxiety, and we have supported a lot of our members to overcome their anxiety eventually with the aid of these therapies. I hope you can take this into consideration because it is very important that you have the right support and treatment to manage your anxiety. Alternatively, you can look into our bookshop via http://www.anxietyuk.org.uk/shop/. We have a brilliant “Overcoming” book series and they are written by well-recognised CBT therapist. They are good self help books that they can teach you ways to manage your anxiety at your own pace. If you have any questions, please feel free to ring us on 08444 775 774 and speak to one of our volunteers for more advice and information.

      Best wishes
      Shirley

Hi I have anxity I have it it for 5 year on and off but I have had it now for 5 months I have been to c my gp an have had 2 ECG tests a blood test an heart ultura sound an a 24 hour ECG as I got it in my head it was my heart, when I get an attack my heart rate gos up I feel light headed shake and and go hot or feel cold any idear what would help thanks

    • Volunteer says:

      Hi Stephen

You need to distract yourself from focusing on these physical symptoms because the more you focus on them, the worst the experience is going to get and the more likely this will trigger other symptoms. These symptoms are very likely caused by the negative thinking and irrational thoughts, and keep having medical tests done on and checking yourself for more symptoms will only give you a short-term relief but reinforce the anxiety itself (one step forward three steps back). I would recommend the Overcoming Health Anxiety to you and you can purchase it on our Shop. This is a cognitive behavioural self-help book which is full of excellent explanation on health anxiety and how you can manage it. Also, have you heard the Fight or Flight Response? This is an automatic physiological response to acute stress and anxiety, and the excess and abnormal increase of adrenaline is responsible for anxiety. Exercise is a very good way of burning up some of these excess adrenaline and it helps to reduce anxiety and stress levels, and 45mins cardio-exercise a day is what you need.
