Manchester Peer Mentoring Project

Are you based in the Manchester area?  Have anxiety issues affected your home life? Has agoraphobia prevented you from working? Does the worry of having another panic attack prevent you from carrying out day to day tasks? Do you find the pressures of day to day life overwhelming?

A mentor can listen to your concerns and support you to deal with the worries that are concerning you the most. A mentor could help you with:

  • Improving mental and emotional well-being
  • Increasing confidence
  • Signposting to training, education or employment services
  • Listen to your concerns and help you devise ways to help ease your worries

Matching process

The Mentoring Coordinator will match you with a mentor, based on the information that they you supply on your online application form and the type of support required. Where possible you will be paired with someone who has been through similar experiences.

What happens once I have applied?

Once you have applied the Mentoring Coordinator will be in touch. A screening process will be carried out involving an initial telephone interview. You will then receive an email from the Mentoring Coordinator with details of when the first meeting with your mentor will take place. The meeting will take place with a group of other mentors and mentees supervised by the Mentoring Coordinator and is your chance to meet your mentor for the first time.

What if I’m agoraphobic or have social anxiety?

Anxiety UK offers an e-mentoring service. A mentor can support you by offering email guidance and advice. If you don”t feel up to face to face mentoring, your mentor is only an email away. Anxiety UK provides you with a private email address that you can use to send emails to your mentor.

How long will our 1-1 meetings last?

Face to face meetings with your mentor are expected to be carried out once every 2 weeks. They should last around 30-40 minutes.

What if I don’t get on with my mentor?

This is not a problem. Just get in touch with the Mentoring Coordinator who will try to arrange another mentor for you, or another solution.

The Mentoring Project is currently only available in the Manchester area. If you are based in Manchester and would like to register as a mentee please fill in and return the below form to mentoring@anxietyuk.org.uk
