ANXIETY UK is committed to raising the awareness and understanding of anxiety disorders. Our aim is to help with research where possible and we receive many requests from students conducting research projects.
ANXIETY UK's policy is to assist research at post-graduate level where the work involved will raise the profile of anxiety disorders and increase understanding and treatment.
Unfortunately we cannot help with undergraduate research projects.

Living with a parent with OCD: the lives and experiences of children
I’m a trainee clinical psychologist doing some research about the experiences of children who have a parent with OCD. I’m looking for 12-18 year olds who’d talk to me about themselves, their lives, their friends and family and their understanding of their parent’s OCD. There is very little research in to this area at present. Participation involves a one-off meeting with the young person (only with permission from their parent) at their home. We would talk privately for around one hour about their experiences. All data is confidential and anonymised and the project has full NHS ethical approval.

Treatment approaches to Body Dysmorphic Disorder
Practitioners with experience of working therapeutically with sufferers of Body Dysmorphic Disorder required for short online survey.
We are a group of counsellors in training undertaking a research project that aims to investigate therapeutic approaches for treatment of those affected by issues of Self Harm and/or Body Dysmorphia.
The multiple choice questionnaire should take approximately 5 minutes to complete.
All questionnaires have been sanctioned by LC&CTA (providers of counsellor training at Lewisham College) and responses will be treated confidentially.
We will be applying to exhibit our findings at the BACP annual conference in August 2009. Students from LC&CTA have successfully presented their research at conference for the past two years.

Tokophobia:The Extreme Fear of Childbirth
I am currently looking for women who might be interested in taking part in my doctorate research project on tokophobia. Tokophobia is defined as the extreme dread and fear of childbirth which is sufficient enough for some women to postpone or avoid pregnancy altogether.
I am looking to interview women individually face to face for up to an hour where participants would have the opportunity to discuss what their experience is on the subject of their fear of childbirth. Women are at liberty to withdraw from participating in the research at any point before, during or after interview, including after the dissertation has been written up. No names or defining characteristics would be mentioned.
The fear of childbirth is an extremely under researched topic in the field of pregnancy and birth and I therefore hope that that this research will help to promote awareness and possibly treatment for such an important and neglected area, which I suspect is often not taken seriously enough.

Does your spouse / partner have OCD?
Research study: Exploring people’s responses to spouses’/ partners’ obsessions and / or compulsions
My name is Rachel Orr. I am a trainee clinical psychologist from Lancaster University, completing this project as part of my doctorate qualification. I would be really interested in hearing from anyone (over the age of 18) who is living with a spouse / partner (also aged 18 or over) who has OCD or obsessions and / or compulsions. To take part, you will have been living together in the same household for at least one year.
I am interested in interviewing people about how they respond to their spouses’ or partners’ obsessions / behaviours. I would be really interested in hearing from people about their experiences of this.
If you are interested, it would involve you initially completing a short questionnaire to tell me a little about your spouse’s / partner’s behaviour. You are not required to give any identifying information about them at any point. We will look at this questionnaire to see if your spouse / partner has significant obsessions and / or compulsions for it to be suitable to include you in the study. You could then be interviewed by me for approximately one hour about your involvement and responses to your spouse’s / partner’s obsessions and / or compulsions. The interview could take place at a convenient place near your home.
At no point will I need to speak to or be given any identifying information about your spouse / partner (who has obsessions and / or compulsions or OCD).
If you would like further information or might be interested in taking part please contact me on 01524 592970 or alternatively email me at r.orr@lancaster.ac.uk
Please note that participation in this research will only take place up until November 2008. Therefore if you want to take part in this study please contact me before then.
This study has been approved by Lancaster University Ethics Committee.
Thank You

Mothers with Mental Illness Wanted!
Mothers with Mental Illness Wanted
Are you a mother living with a mental illness?
Interested in telling your story?
Tell Us About Your Strengths And Challenges
• The views of women with mental illness are overlooked in family research. You can change that
• We want to interview mothers with mental illness (custodial or non-custodial) about their experiences as mothers.
• This project will involve a 1-1 ½ hour interview, done in strict confidence

Setting up Anti-depressant and SSRI medication withdrawal support groups
The Seroxat User Group have received thousands of testimonies from people who have experienced negative effects when taking and trying to withdraw from Anti-Depressants or SSRIs (selective seretonin re-uptake inhibitors) such as Seroxat. These drugs are prescribed for various conditions including anxiety disorders and depression.
Unfortunately patient testimonies are not always taken into consideration in drug safety assessment, unless they are flagged up in adverse side effect reporting schemes. We want to build on patient testimonies and use them proactively to help inform support groups for people who have had negative experiences of medication.
If you are currently taking, are trying to stop taking or have taken SSRI medication in the past, you are invited to take part in a current piece of research to share your story. The research is being conducted by a Manchester Metropolitan University Psychology Masters student in association with the Seroxat group. Contribution to this research can be as easy as sending an e-mail response or taking part in a short interview.
Research Aims
• Record people’s experiences of medication
• Look at commonalities in drug experiences and in the coping techniques people use when experiencing side effects when taking or stopping medication
• To investigate whether patient’s interests are being served in relation to the receipt of thorough information about potential drug side effects on prescription
• To utilise the information that participants give to inform the formation of support groups. Support groups will act as supportive networks where people can share experiences, look into alternative coping mechanisms and support either other if they experiencing negative medication side effects
Please contact me for more information, and a participant information pack. I am happy to do call backs if required.

Virtual Reality Therapies in the treatment of Anxiety Disorders
Participants needed for study researching the use of Virtual Reality Therapies in the treatment of Anxiety Disorders.
Professor Joyce Davidson of Queen’s University, Canada, would like to recruit people who suffer from any kind of Anxiety Disorder, and who have experienced Virtual Reality Therapy, to take part in a new research project (funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the federal granting agency for university researchers). Participants will be interviewed by Joyce Davidson either in person, by phone, or via email or written responses, depending on personal preference. Interviews are expected to last around one hour. For more information about the study, and about what the interviews might involve, please contact Joyce directly at:

Self and Relational Views
My name is Maria Day and I'm a Trainee Clinical Psychologist. As part of my thesis, I am working with Dr Michelle Luke and Dr Lusia Stopa on a study of social anxiety. We hope that the results of this study will be useful to our clinical colleagues when working with individuals who experience anxiety disorders. We would be very grateful to anyone aged over 18 years who would like to take part in this study. We are interested in the responses of people with different levels of anxiety and so you do not have to have social anxiety to take part. Participation involves completing an online questionnaire, which should take 15-20 minutes of your time. If you are interested in taking part in this study then please click on the following link:

Social Phobia; A Question of Theory of Mind?
Over the past few years, I have been looking at social anxiety and a potential link to theory of mind for my doctoral research. I still need a number of participants in my generalised anxiety group and my social anxiety group. The research entails taking a mini-IQ test and answering questions to a number of stories. I see each participant individually at City University. The research takes about one hour.
